Ruth Rappaport and Ben Wetherbee are mother-and-son players of old-time Appalachian, Irish, and other traditional music. Ruth Rappaport is an excellent rhythm guitarist and pianist and lays down the beat behind some of the best fiddlers, old-time string bands, and other traditional instrumentalists active today. She shines as a vocalist with a repertoire that ranges from mountain ballads and gutsy blues to honky-tonk hits and old folk songs. Ruth plays with The Hoot Owls and was, for 15 years, part of the widely acclaimed eclectic string band, The Poodles. Ben Wetherbee is an exciting up-and-coming old-time fiddler, born and raised in Watertown, MA. Inspired by the local and regional fiddlers he grew up hearing and hanging around, he is largely self-taught and deeply passionate for the past, present, and future of the music. Though most versed in old-time music, he is equally comfortable playing Cajun, Rock'n Roll, Bluegrass, Irish, shape note songs, or whatever else suits his fancy, all with a notable uniqueness, power, and creativity.
