Join us for our 4th annual Open House on October 14! This is a rare opportunity to step beyond the Athenæum’s red leather doors and access the library’s members-only areas. The entire building, including the iconic fifth-floor reading room, will be open for self-guided tours. Docents and staff members stationed throughout the building will share information about the institution’s history, its vast collections, and its landmark home at 10½ Beacon Street.
Visitors will encounter treasures of the Athenæum’s collections including portions of George Washington’s personal library; the King’s Chapel Collection—the oldest remaining colonial library in Boston; and works of art by John Singer Sargent, Gilbert Stuart, Polly Thayer Starr, N.C. Wyeth, and many more.
