The North Pole is a new comedic web series that features cameos from Emmy Award-winning comedian W. Kamau Bell, legendary rappers Boots Riley and Mistah FAB, and former Black Panther leader Ericka Huggins.

Absurdly funny yet deadly serious, the show follows three best friends born and raised in North Oakland, California — better known to locals as The North Pole — who fight, dream, and plot hilarious schemes to remain rooted as their neighborhood becomes a hostile environment. Facing both gentrification and climate change, they combat evil landlords, crazy geoengineering plots, and ultimately each other.

Written and produced by Josh Healey, directed by Yvan Iturriaga, the series is executive produced by Movement Generation and co-produced by Darren Colston.

WORKSHOP 1:
Make it Fresh: Comedy & Creative Storytelling for Social Justice

If politics is the art of what's possible, then let's use art to expand those possibilities. Join writer/producer Josh Healey and actor/comedian Reyna Amaya of the web series The North Pole in this interactive arts and activism workshop as we write and share new stories and jokes, poems and possibilities. Discover how to use your own story to change the larger worlds story towards justice, ecology, and reclaiming the power of our radical imagination.

Participants will explore the relationship between their environment and their community, race and place, neighborhood stories and global climate change — all in a fun, supportive, sometimes hilarious atmosphere. Combining creative writing and comedic storytelling, all participants will create one original story or artistic piece to take home with them.

All levels welcome. This workshop is geared towards community activists, emerging artists, and anyone who sometimes feels the urge to punch a Nazi in the face

WORKSHOP 2:
«Irma and I: When Roxbury's Land Becomes Waterfront Property»

Are we ready to deal with climate disasters? Join us to learn history and facts about what makes Roxbury so valuable in the face of climate change. We'll also begin to develop our plan for emergency response here in Boston. This workshop will be led by Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE). ACE is a proud member of the Climate Justice Alliance.
